Central Youth Basketball Organization Parent and Player Code of Conduct
The CYBO basketball organization is committed to the instruction and development of youth basketball at the elementary level in the Central York School District.
Our goals are to teach fundamental basketball skills, promote
team play, and increase our participants’ love for the sport of basketball. Good sportsmanship will be stressed as skills are taught in practice and further developed in competitive league games.
I/we (PARENT(S)/GUARDIAN(S) and (PLAYER) , including all guests attending events to support will abide by the following Code of Conduct.
• I will set an example for my team, my opponents, and my community for good sportsmanship.
• I will treat game officials with respect and courtesy.
• I will remember that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that we will not be defeated by the outcome of any game.
• I will remember that the lessons learned through hard work, fair play, and good sportsmanship are as important as the outcome of any game.
• I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child, my child’s teammates, and the opponent team’s children ahead of any personal desire to win.
• I will remember that this is a youth sport, and that the game is for children and not adults.
o I will refrain from using profanity and will not make offensive statements toward children, coaches, officials, and other fans/attendees.
o Any player, coach, or spectator ejected from any league activity is immediately suspended for a minimum of one (1) week from all CYBO league activities. The infraction will then be reviewed by the
entire board and additional weeks of suspension may be added to the infraction.
• I will ensure that my child arrives on time and properly equipped for all games and practices. If there is a delay or necessary absence, I will notify the coach in advance.
• I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches or referees at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place
at least 24 hours after the game or practice
o Any violation of this rule will result in a minimum 30 day suspension from all CYBO events based on CYBO board review.
• I will resolve any troublesome issue at the appropriate time through appropriate communication privately and discreetly with the coach or organization and not by interrupting practice or gameplay. I will not interfere with the duties and responsibilities of the coach.
• I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
• I will support my team and applaud good performance and maintain a positive playing environment for all parties involved including players, coaches, officials, and opponents’ fans. I also agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to the following:
• Verbal warning by official, head coach, and/or member of the CYBO Board of Directors
• Written warning • Parental game suspension with written documentation of incident
• Parental/Family member season suspension
• Player removal from the team
